History Making Hand Crew Returns Home from #LastInchFire - Idaho

SOPFEU _ Québec: a member agency of the NFFPC.org

The Northeastern Forest Fire Protection Compact - #NECompact - scores a first.  This is history making as the NECompact sent its first Canadian Hand Crew to a US wildfire which was being managed by a NECompact Type2 Incident Management Team.

The NFFPC's Type 2 IMT had been dispatched to the Last Inch Fire some weeks prior to the arrival of the Québecoise.  Québec's crew arrived in time to receive assignment duties from fellow Compact colleagues.  The IMT's Type2 crew (already extended more time to continue management duties) assignment was later downsized and replaced by a local Type3 Team from the Last Inch Fire area.

Scheduled for September 11th return

Incident Overview

The Last Inch Fire is a lightning caused fire burning 12 miles east of Clarkia, Idaho. The fire is currently 689 acres and 90% contained.

Today, crews were assisted by the arrival of cool weather and higher humidity on the fire.

Steep slopes and the presence of damaged and dead trees present a moderate risk to firefighters. Assessment and mitigation strategies are in place to manage this risk.
